GOD.
DAMMIT.

^ *sigh*

So… remember how a few months ago I posted about how the Indian Skyscraper Blog had made its triumphant march back into the land of the living??? (*hint*: scroll down the page)

Well f@$% me.

Yeah, sorry guys and gals. Once again I’m totally and completely overcome by busyness and this blog, after lurching gloriously forward for a week, has once again fallen flat on its face.

I’m sorry I’m sorry, I really am. But I just can’t find the time to update the blog as often as I should…

And dammit, its not that there’s NOT been any jawdropping news in Indian urbanism since that fateful post either, like….

  • A whole slew of awesome “tallest buildings” announced
  • A metric crapton(ne) of amazing architecture
  • A veritable grip of new airports
  • New metro and subway lines up the friggin ass
  • ETC*sob*

I hate that this blog is just sitting here looking pretty (though pretty damn sexy, if you ask me, in any case) while all this is going on...

So I’m open to anyone’s suggestions on how I can kick-start this blog!

Are there aspiring writers/bloggers/architecture-freaks out there who want in this exclusive and hoity-toity club?

Any fans who wanna help out?

Please drop me a note as a comment in this message, or email me at

Diamond Tower, Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT), Gandhinagar, India
…India’s tallest commercial tower, and the crowning masterpiece of India’s future financial metropolis!

The Diamond Tower is crowning centerpiece of India’s largest greenfield megaproject, the Gujarat International Finance Tech-City The 87-floor Diamond Tower will be India’s largest commercial tower and is the largest announced tower in the GIFT skyline.

Before I go on about the Diamond Tower, its necessary to give some background on the GIFT project itself:

Located at Gandhinagar, the capital city of the über-industrial Indian state of Gujarat, and nearby the state’s commercial capital of Ahmedabad, the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City will be one of the world’s largest and most modern financial hubs.

From its already lofty original development goals, GIFT has since grown manifold to literally an entire city’s central business district that will be larger than Paris’s La Defense, Tokyo’s Shinjuku, London’s Dockyards and Shanghai’s Pudong financial districts. It will house over a million people with millions more commuting there daily.

Well placed between the political and commercial capitals of Gujarat of Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad respectively, GIFT is a public-private partnership basically designed to kick Mumbai in the FDI balls and establish itself as a world player. It is India’s first major supertall Central Business District project that is designed to be the focal point of both the world’s and India’s booming financial services market by providing companies with all those things Mumbai is still developing: comprehensive infrastructure, power, verticalized office space, and a well designed, planned and expandable urban form. Its strong proximity and infrastructure connectivity with Mumbai ensures that mutually beneficial development occurs between the two metros..

The scale of GIFT is singularly massive, unparalleled in the world except a handfull of Dubai megaprojects, none of those which can hold a candle to GIFT’s goals of economic sustainability, integration and scalability.

Gujarat International Finance Tec-City will have 312 tall buildings — the tallest being the signature Diamond Tower with 87 floors; another 40 buildings with more than 50 floors and many more with 24 plus floors of height. The entire project is not only fully approved but already completely sold out due to insane demand. Construction will begin later this year.

For more information on GIFT as a whole, please check out the GIFT thread in General Urban Developments forum for a summary of the main developments and the GIFT thread in the SSC India forum for more detailed discussions.

——==–=–==——-

OK, now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the majestic Diamond Tower 🙂

DB Tower, Marine Lines, Mumbai, India
…In the running for Mumbai’s tallest tower title, and an awesome redesign
to an already awesome design (you see where we’re going with this?)

(an project update as of 07 Oct, 08!)

Yeah… I’m man enough to admit it…

HOLY CRAP WERE WE WRONG!

Remember our post detailing a brand spaking new tower to be built alongside Mumbai’s tallest tower proposal, India Tower, and how we went on about how cool that was?

^ Yeah, OK, I get it. Jeez.

Well, whoops, here’s the real scoop, also cool but also somewhat disappointing. wait for it… wait for it…

India Tower and Dynamix-Balwas Tower (DB Tower) are one and the same!

Yup! One of India and the World’s greenest towers has changed in name and design! Rotating-Blocky India tower is officially redesigned and rebadged as DB Tower, the flagship project of DB Realty. In our defense, until fairly recently the all information that had been made public has been confused and contradictory.

^ DB Tower = new India Tower = new hotness.

The finalized design will be huge — at 75 stories of residential and untold more in lobbies, sky lobbies and utility floors, and boasting a height and crown that will push this supertall to over 400 meters! Like its India Tower precursor, it will be of mixed (residential + hotel) use. Construction will soon commence with an aim for completion by 2011.

Indeed the DB Tower, like the erstwhile India tower, is still going to be LEED Platinum certified, and is designed by the same architects, Fox and Fowle (FXFOWLE).

WE’RE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^ The ISB triumphantly returns!

Hi everybody!

Hooray! Huzzah! It’s official!

We at the Indian Skyscraper Blog (well me, at least) are officially back!

Yeah yeah.. I let the blog go to shit over the last couple months. Broken images, confused tables, screwed up formatting, broken dreams and shattered lives. Posts woefully out of date. Massively important news stories and updates missing and unreported. It was a tragedy, indeed.

But the times, they’re a-changin’!

Not only have a turned it around like a master deejay, but starting today, I am going to update the hell out of this blog, with new posts, content and images.

I promised it before, and I will again, soon, hopefully, I can scrounge the time to migrate this blog to its own domain. But before that, I need to bring this blog back up to date.

In addition to posts about new projects, I’ll be posting updates of the to the projects already posted. I’ll also start posting fortnightly Mumbai news and projects updates starting from several months ago – i.e. I’m going to post a whole slew of them, until we get back up to date.

I’ll also mercilessly shame and shun the other guys here at ISB until they start posting again too.

So, rejoice!, for ISB is back.
